Contractors, businesses, and landlords operating in the town of New Chicago must register with the town each year. Below are the requirements for each.
Contractor’s License
Requirements:
- MUST obtain Contractor’s License prior to any work being completed.
- A Certificate of Insurance must be presented at time of obtaining the license.
- A Copy of Bond on file with Lake County must be presented at time of obtaining the license.
- $100 fee payable to the Town of New Chicago in the form of cash, check, or money order.
Payments may be made in person at the New Chicago Town Hall, 122 Huber Blvd, Hobart, IN 46342 or via mail. If you decide to send everything via mail, please include a self addressed stamped envelope for return of the license.
Business License
Requirements:
- Every business in New Chicago is required to obtain a Business License each year.
- The cost of the license is $100 and is due by January 31st of each year.
- If you are opening a business at any time during the year, the fee is still $100 and is only good through the end of that current year.
- For example, if you open your business in November, you must still pay $100 for the license for the current calendar year, and then another $100 two months later for the next calendar year.
- If you are a new business planning to open in the town of New Chicago, you must appear before the town of New Chicago Planning Commission before the business license will be issued.
- The New Chicago Planning Commission meets once a month on the second Wednesday of the month. You must contact the New Chicago Town Hall the Thursday before the next Planning Commission meeting at the latest to be added to the agenda. If you are not on the agenda, you will not be recognized at the meeting and will need to get on the agenda for the following month. Rental Registration
Requirements:
- Landlord must complete the Annual Rental Registration form.
- The cost is $5.00 per rental unit.
- Registration form and payment is due no later than April 15th.
