SUPE: Substance Use Prevention Education

SUPE: Substance Use Prevention Education is a non-profit organization providing education and resources to prevent substance use. They have created some great resources, available in both English & Spanish, to help educate parents and guardians about Fentanyl.

  • Parent’s Guide to Fentanyl
    • This comprehensive guide equips parents with valuable information, including tips, warning signs, and helpful videos/articles. Ite empowers parents to protect their children from the dangers of fentanyl and make informed decisions regarding substance use.
  • Protecting Children From Online Drug Dealers
    • This resource provides essential tools to safeguard children, including the “Emoji code” to identify online drug dealing, insights into the dark web, and other online safety measures.

4/27/2024 Pet Clinic

The pet clinic originally scheduled for 4/27/2024 at the New Chicago Town Hall has been canceled due to lack of an available veterinarian. Once we have a new date, we will let everyone know.

1/19/2024 Garbage Pickup

Total Disposal will be picking up both garbage and recycling from the street on January 19th, 2024. No alley pickup will take place due to the weather that is expected. Please contact the town hall with any questions at 219-962-1157.

Leaf Pickup

Please note that if the leaf truck goes by and your leaves are not at the curb at that time, they will not come back immediately to get them. They will finish with the rest of the town first, and then come back for those who had their leaves out after the truck has already been by. Thank you for your patience.

Ridge Road/37th Ave Paving Project

Ridge Rd/37th Ave Paving Project will begin Monday, November 13th, 2023 at 6am. The contractor will be starting on the outside (right) lanes and will have all of the intersections on the north and south side of the road closed during that portion of the construction project. The detour route will be to take Tyler St to Lake Park Ave to Ridge Rd. When coming into town from Ridge Rd, you will want to take Ridge Rd to Lake Park Ave to Tyler St.

New Chicago, Lake Station, and Hobart emergency services have all been notified of these closures to ensure that they take the appropriate routes to get to and from New Chicago as required.

The total expected length of time for the project is two weeks. The project scope is the repaving all lanes of Ridge Rd and also the replacement of ADA ramps at intersections that currently have them. All time frames for the project are weather dependent.

2023 November General Election

Please note, there will be no election held in New Chicago on November 7th, 2023. All elected positions were unopposed this year. The next town council and clerk treasurer election will be in 2024.

July Cornhole Tournament

Come on down to Twin Oaks Park on Sunday, July 30th, for our cornhole tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded for this tournament.

Cornhole tournament flyer. Tournament will be held Sunday, July 30th, 2023 at Twin Oaks Park. Practice will start at 10am. Tournament starts at 12pm. $40 per team. $30 to prize pool, $10 to parks department. Bags and boards provided or bring your own.
