This notice is to inform the public that the Planning Commission and Town Council Meetings for February 12th, 2025 have been rescheduled to February 19th, 2025 due to the inclement weather forecasted for February 12th, 2025. Both meetings will be held at their regular times (Planning Commission at 5:00pm and Town Council at 6:00pm) on February 19th, 2025.

Please contact the town hall or your ward representative with any questions. Contact information can be found on the Contact Page of the website. The previously setup live stream for tonight’s town council meeting has also been rescheduled to reflect the new day.

Notices have also been placed at the town hall and sent to the newspaper for official reporting per state laws.

A boil order for all of Viking Village and part of North Lake Park is in effect for at least the next 48 hours due to the earlier main break.

Customers of the New Chicago Water System,

New Chicago has contracted with Abonmarche Consultants, LLC, to assist with our water service line inventory program. Authorized door-knockers will begin visiting residences and businesses throughout New Chicago to perform short assessments. Work will begin in October and is expected to continue for a few days.

If customers would prefer NOT to have an unexpected visit from a door knocker, they may inspect their service line material using the simple online survey at the link below.

Please note that this is the service line coming from the meter to the inside of your home. This service line is what would have been installed by the person who built the home originally or what the person had installed at the time of the water meter pit installation. The water main lines that feed the water to the meter before entering your home are all lead free.

The images below are for your reference. These employees will be going around door to door for those who have not completed the survey or do not feel comfortable with completing the survey on their own. It is vital that we complete this survey as it has been mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

As required per State and Federal requirements, the Town Water Department must complete a material inventory of all water service lines in the Town by October 2024.

The pet clinic originally scheduled for 4/27/2024 at the New Chicago Town Hall has been canceled due to lack of an available veterinarian. Once we have a new date, we will let everyone know.

Total Disposal will be picking up both garbage and recycling from the street on January 19th, 2024. No alley pickup will take place due to the weather that is expected. Please contact the town hall with any questions at 219-962-1157.

Please note that if the leaf truck goes by and your leaves are not at the curb at that time, they will not come back immediately to get them. They will finish with the rest of the town first, and then come back for those who had their leaves out after the truck has already been by. Thank you for your patience.

Ridge Rd/37th Ave Paving Project will begin Monday, November 13th, 2023 at 6am. The contractor will be starting on the outside (right) lanes and will have all of the intersections on the north and south side of the road closed during that portion of the construction project. The detour route will be to take Tyler St to Lake Park Ave to Ridge Rd. When coming into town from Ridge Rd, you will want to take Ridge Rd to Lake Park Ave to Tyler St.

New Chicago, Lake Station, and Hobart emergency services have all been notified of these closures to ensure that they take the appropriate routes to get to and from New Chicago as required.

The total expected length of time for the project is two weeks. The project scope is the repaving all lanes of Ridge Rd and also the replacement of ADA ramps at intersections that currently have them. All time frames for the project are weather dependent.
