Water Department

This operation is only suspended during emergency events that require the workers to perform street department tasks such as snow and ice removal or fallen limbs due to severe storms.

The monthly water bills will be mailed out to the address on record at the town hall and is to be paid by cash or check at the town hall.

Fire Hydrant Flushing

Fire hydrant flushing takes place each year in the third week of April and third week of October. Residents will be notified prior to flushing of the hydrants in their area so that there is no shock if discolored water appears in their faucets for a short time. The dates for these events will be posted here and on the events calendar. Please contact the New Chicago Water Department with any questions regarding this operation.

Winter Time Advice

Here is some best practices to use in the winter time to avoid having pipes freeze. Let’s make it through the winter freeze free!

  • Always keep the heat on
  • Let the faucet farthest away from where the water comes in at stay at a slow drip. The drip should be about the size of a sharp pencil lead.
  • If the water comes in up through a crawl space, make sure that the pipe is insulated.
  • Do NOT open the pit outside if it is below freezing as this could cause the water meter to freeze.
